Unlock Foundation is a non-profit organization that seeks to address critical educational gaps in rural African schools. We work with teachers, students and community members on small sustainable projectsthat ensure students receive the best primary education possible.
Unlock Foundation believes education is the key to alleviating global poverty. By improving a school, you are not only providing one child with a pathway out of poverty, but you are helping the family, the community, and the country as a whole. We believe that education can open the door to new opportunities, new hope, and new ideas.
Rural schools, much more than urban schools, face a greater struggle to fulfill its goals of providing a quality education to its students. While more than 70 percent of Africa’s population still lives in rural areas, in many areas, rural education is not receiving sufficient attention from policy makers. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, for every 100 children living in urban areas who have access to primary education, only 68 do so in rural communities, and for every 100 children in urban areas who complete primary school, only 46 do so in rural regions.
